Development projects in Barkarbystaden

The blue line's new station 30–35 metres down, with two entrances along Barkarbyvägen: at Sveatorget and at Flygfältsplatsen. The concrete work is finished, the escalators have been in place in both entrances since March 2026, the first track on the Barkarby branch was in place in June, and by September track-laying was complete on the stretch where both tracks share one tunnel; Barkarbystaden to T-Centralen will take 24 minutes. The station page still says December 2027, but Region Stockholm's review of 25 September 2026 expects the opening to slip by about a year, to the fourth quarter of 2028 – no new timetable has been decided yet.

The line's terminus 30 metres down: the north entrance inside the new station house at Veddestabron, the south one by Veddestavägen and the new street Banmästargatan. The concrete work is finished and the station is being fitted out – by September 2026 the escalators down to the platform were installed. Barkarby to T-Centralen will take 26 minutes. The opening is planned for December 2027, but since Region Stockholm's review of 25 September 2026 it is expected in the fourth quarter of 2028 – no new timetable has been decided.

A new bus terminal of around 6,000 square metres and 355-metre platforms for regional and long-distance trains at Barkarby station, in the 4,000-square-metre station house whose north entrance opened on 28 March 2026. The tracks are planned to open for train traffic when the terminal is finished in December 2026, according to Trafikverket. Trafikverket's 2027 timetable has SJ regional trains stopping at Barkarby from 13 December 2026 – most departures between Stockholm Central and Västerås, Örebro and Gothenburg, the municipality announced on 22 September 2026.

The park corridor along Bällstaån is being extended south from Vagnsgatan to Barkarbybron. Work began in August 2026 according to the municipality's barkarby.se, and through the autumn the ground is being excavated and reinforced, with most transport kept inside the site, according to the municipality's development page. Further south the park gives way to meadow, birch woodland and a wetland that takes the water in heavy flows; the first stage of Å-rummet opened in May 2024.

10,500 square metres of commercial space for offices, restaurants, services and retail in the two blocks by the metro entrance that Åke Sundvall signed a development agreement for with the municipality on 11 May 2026. Block 9, with the metro entrance inside the building, is under way – Åke Sundvall announced the ground-breaking on 3 September 2026 – and holds 8,000 square metres: services, shops, restaurants and cafés at street level and two floors for offices, care and health in a podium beneath three towers designed by BAU. The municipality is finishing the stretch of Veddestavägen in front of the new bus terminal, with work planned to run until December 2026, and has started completing the new regional walking and cycling route along Bäckparksgatan, which is to continue along Norrviksvägen and link the Barkarby interchange to the City of Stockholm, according to the municipality's development page. Near Veddestabäcken it is also building a stormwater storage facility to take the load in cloudbursts, with work continuing until the new year according to the same page. The two new parks along Bäckparksgatan, one of them around a stormwater pond, are already open – the municipality announced their inauguration on barkarby.se on 9 September 2026.

Flygfältsvägen is being made two-way during 2026 and gets a new walking and cycling path, speed bumps at the junctions and a new bus stop by Herrestaskolan; while it is closed, traffic runs on a temporary one-way road alongside it, from Herculesgatan to Barkarbyvägen. At the same time two new streets towards Kyrkbyn are being finished, Hässlögatan and Predikantvägen, with Predikantvägen extended from Kyrkbyn to meet Flygfältsvägen, according to the municipality's development page.

The district's first lower-secondary school: a pavilion school between Diagonalgatan, Jaktfalksgatan, Safirgatan and Flygfältsvägen, next to Safirparken, with room for 180 pupils in years 7–9 in the first stage and 270 when fully built. The decision to plan the school is dated 20 February 2026 in the municipality's timeline; the municipal executive board gave the go-ahead on 7 September 2026, with the final decision left to the municipal council's meeting of 21 September. Construction runs through winter and spring 2027 and the first pupils start in the autumn term of 2027 – a permanent F–9 school is planned for 2031, when the pavilion school closes.

Around 740 homes, a stand-alone preschool and town-centre businesses at Barkarby centrum, partly on the site of today's bus terminal: five new blocks along Helikoptervägen with homes, shops, services and a mobility hub, plus five infill buildings along Flygarvägen and Jaktvägen, with squares and parkland that also handle stormwater and cloudbursts. The detailed plan was out for review 9 February–11 March 2026 and is being revised ahead of adoption, according to the municipality's planning page.
