Barkarbystaden is Järfälla's major urban development area: the old airfield and southern Veddesta are to hold 14,000 homes and 30,000 new residents by 2035, with the metro's blue line reaching Barkarbystaden and Barkarby from December 2027.

The facts are read from Järfälla municipality's and Trafikverket's own pages, and every section shows when it was last checked.

When does the metro open in Barkarbystaden?

In December 2027, according to Region Stockholm's nyatunnelbanan.se. The blue line is extended 4.1 kilometres from Akalla to two new stations, Barkarbystaden and Barkarby, and the journey to T-Centralen will take 24 and 26 minutes respectively. The line was originally to open in 2026; a dispute with a contractor cost around a year and a half, and re-planning recovered part of it.

Construction is in its final stage: on 3 March 2026 the groundwater-affecting construction period formally ended, the concrete work is complete at both stations, the escalators have been in place in both of Barkarbystaden's entrances since March, and the first rails were laid at Barkarbystaden on 30 June 2026.

A year earlier, in December 2026, the new bus terminal of around 6,000 square metres and the platforms for regional and long-distance trains open at Barkarby station, according to Trafikverket. The station house's north entrance to the commuter trains opened on 28 March 2026.
